Two Small Gems

By gartenfische | February 26, 2008

African prayer:
O Father God, I cannot fight this darkness by beating it with my hands.
Help me to take the light of Christ into it. Amen.

And Meister Eckhart:

If people find themselves in this way in pure nothingness, is it not better for them to do something to drive away the darkness and the abandonment? Should such people not somehow pray, read, listen to a sermon, or carry out other works that are virtuous so as to help themselves? No! Understand this truly that remaining quite still and for as long at a time as possible is the best thing you can do.

The African prayer was found at Catherine’s blog. The Eckhart at Painter’s (Painter—where are you?).

Lovely Linda has graced me with a Spread the Love Award. How beautiful is that? She said: “I read many blogs but these bloggers were the first three who popped into my mind when I thought about bloggers who ‘uplift and inform.’” Wow. I am truly moved.

Thank you, Linda! You are a gem.

I, too, read many wonderful blogs, but this one goes to YogaMum, who is living with the reality of her dad’s cancer and still spreads the love. She is simply amazing. Please pray for YogaMum, her mom and her dad, Mike.

Check out my alter blog, wyrdbyrd, for some really cool music (Gil Scott-Heron), a bit o’ commentary on my whitebread childhood and a slice o’ Archie Bunker.

I thought I was done crying today, until I saw this. But they are the good kind of tears! You are so sweet.

I truly think the only reason I can still “spread the love” is because I have so many good people, like you, on my side.

Garten, you do “spread the love.” You also find wonderful quotes. Thank you.

Yes you do, Gartenfische (spread the love, I mean) both short term in ‘feel good hug’ way & long term ‘wisdom to get through the night’ way. & so does Yogamum… 2 good choices!

Oh, that Meister Eckhart quote was just what I needed to read today. Thank you for that. I think I might borrow it if that’s ok.

Also, thank you for your lovely comments about the beauty from chaos lent blog - wonderful to know it’s being read and that people are finding it useful and reflective.

Thank you all, for your kind comments and YogaMum, yes, I suppose we help each other spread the love, but you still amaze me.

P.S. Kate, of course you can use the quote—that’s what makes this blogging thing so cool: What we share with each other!

Beautiful! It’s always goofd to read Eckhart, and the African prayer is truly profound.

You’ll be sinking under the weight of awards, Gartenfische - I’ve just posted another one over on The Mercy Blog…
