Blooming

By gartenfische | March 28, 2008

The most precious gift we can offer others is our presence.
When mindfulness embraces those we love, they will bloom like flowers

This keeps popping into my head since I read it at Jan’s blog. I suppose because the image of people blooming like flowers is beautiful. And clearly true.

When we are not present, what does that mean? When we are more interested in what is going on in our own minds than in the person in front of us we rob that person of her blooming!

St. Francis said, A kind face is a precious gift.

A kind face is the face of one who is present. Let us give one another the gift of our presence, the gift of our kind faces.

I love Francis’ statement that a “kind face is a precious gift.” My mother used to say that the face one has until their 40’s is the inherited face, but after that it’s the face we make. I see that in older women especially. One grandmother of mine had a pursed up and disapproving mouth–she was unhappy all her life and it showed.

Thanks for reminding me about the blooming quote. That was my favorite of those listed, too.

Jan, Your mother’s wisdom is obvious. She is so right. I had a great-grandmother with the sour face—that is so sad (the interesting thing is—she had a twin sister—not identical—who had a happy, loving face!).

What a wonderful quote- so true. I, too, love the visual of people blooming in the sunshine of full attention.

Yogini, Isn’t it a beautiful image?! I read so many words, so much spiritual stuff (too much, sometimes), but the words that resonate most seem to be the ones that share truth-full images.
